The Early Years........
In the third grade I did a drawing of a chariot and gave it to my mother. I wrote on it, “I want to be an artist when I grow up.”
In the fifth grade, I got in trouble for writing stories during Mrs. O’Neal’s math class. I told my parents, “Don’t worry, I’m going to be a writer when I grow up!”
In senior year of high school I worked on the yearbook and did caricatures of some of my teachers. Most of them were happy…
I went to Parson’s School of Design in Greenwich Village. I never left. I still live right around the corner from school!
Some Fun Facts About Me...
I have three daughters, a husband, and a very funny, rescue dog named Ruby. We call her RubyTuesday, Roobus-toobus, and Stinky girl. One of my very favorite books is Becoming Naomi León,
by Pam Muñoz Ryan.
I do a lot of sketches on post-its!
I’m always drawing something.
I love to read. When I was in eighth grade I would read a romance novel inside my textbook.
I used to surf. • Then I broke my leg. • Reading is safer.
Before I did children’s books, I did political and editorial illustration.
I love my job, working at home in my pajamas, illustrating, writing children’s books, and visiting schools.
(I usually don’t wear pajamas when I go to schools.)
Thanks for stopping by!
